Our barrel vise will handle barrels from .75” to 1.375“in diameter. The powder coat finish is so durable it grips barrels like a gorilla. The powder coat finish will also NOT harm the barrel in any way and will not leave any marks whether blued or stainless. With our barrel vise there is no need for leather, spacers, cardboard or used toilet paper rolls unless from certain manufacturers, see below! The bolts are Loctite in place. Max torque on the barrel vise nuts/bolts should be 50 ft/lbs. DO NOT use an impact gun! Mounting holes are 9/16” diameter and 5.750” center to center spacing. This vise may leave marks on a Cerakote or painted barrels (use wraps of drywall tape or paper towel core to prevent paint marks) some use leather as well. This vise may crush the carbon fiber part of a carbon fiber barrel. Please do not copy our products then ask us how to use them. That in itself is quite disrespectful!

We have found when working on rifles manufactured from some companies Howa, Remington or Tikka that the action can be very tight. This is not bad, it’s just how they make their products. Viper recommends wrapping barrels of Howa, Remington and Tikka.
Viper advises wrapping the barrel when working with rifles where the torque of the action to barrel is unknown. Viper also advises wrapping the barrel when torquing the nuts over 50 lbs. This will help to prevent damage to the powder coat finish. This will help your Viper Barrel Vise last for years.

Our barrel vise has a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. But there have been times when the springs, washers or nuts have gotten lost. We do have replacement parts.

With the birth and rise of the Carbon Fiber barrel shooters and home hobbyists have asked me about a barrel vise for them. After several trials, failures and some scrap parts the Python HD is here! This vise can also be ordered with the standard top or Sporter top or with both tops! the standard top will grip barrels diameters from .75" up to 1.4". The Rimfire/Sporter top will grip barrel diameters from .475" up to 1". The Python barrel vise will work with either carbon fiber or non-carbon fiber (Steel or Stainless steel) barrels providing there is approximately 1.5” of barrel metal to make contact with the vise. This is a HEAVY-DUTY barrel vise!
Some of the features of the Python HD:
1: It is 1.3 INCHES WIDE. This barrel vise will grab hold of most, if not all current production carbon fiber and non-carbon fiber (steel and stainless steel) barrels out there on the receiver/action end of the barrel. No more worries about crushing the carbon fiber on your new barrel.
2: The top is 7/8” thick. The standard Viper barrel vise top is 3/4” thick. Thicker material provides even more strength to the top.
3: Top has an improved counterbore allowing the barrel vise top to “cant”/tilt. This will allow for this vise to grip even on Palma barrels.
4: This vise will grip diameters from .750” to 1.4”. A larger range than the Standard Viper barrel vise. The Rimfire/Sporter top will grip barrel diameters from .475" up to 1".
5: The top and bottom of the vise incorporates 4 diameters of very common barrel sizes. .875”, 1.2”, 1.3”, and 1.4” diameter barrels. This feature provides more surface contact for gripping the barrel. This helps with other size barrels as well.
6: The bolts are truly GRADE 8 and will handle torque of up to 94 Ft/lbs. The heavier duty bolts are a major upgrade from the studs used in the original Viper Barrel Vise. Wrapping the barrel is recommended when torquing the nuts over 50 ft/lbs.
7: The Python HD uses HEX HEAD bolts! If for some reason one of the bolts get damaged it can be easily replaced if needed. These bolts are also peened in place during production to prevent them from falling out.
8: The Python HD has the same mounting hole to hole dimensions as the original Viper Barrel Vise. No need to drill new holes in your workbench!

We use a very dense cardboard similar to what is used for the core of paper towels. We have infused this material with Viper Coat. Viper coat is a product we have developed over several years. Viper Coat improves the gripping ability of our barrel vises. The groove of all Viper Bench Rest brand barrel vises uses this coating on the groove since 2025.
It is now available in our barrel wraps. Please check out the videos on you tube for all the details on how to use Viper Barrel Wraps. In our testing the barrel wrap will last for many barrel swaps. The life of the wrap depends on how tight the barrel is torqued in the vise.
We have tested using this barrel wrap, torquing the nuts to 55 Ft/lbs. We were able torque a Remington action to 150 ft/lbs. Using the Viper Barrel Wrap there is not many times that high torque on the nuts will be needed. This will help your vise last much longer.
